In the world of beauty trends, cowboy copper has galloped into the spotlight.  If you're new to the topic you might be asking what makes the difference between Copper hair and Cowboy Copper hair.  True copper hair is often associated with vibrant, fiery hues that lean towards orange or red. Cowboy copper is a rich, dimensional hue that combs earthy warm natural brown hues with a sun-kissed orange edge.  Some say that cowboy copper evokes the charm of the open range and that it isn't just a color - it's a vibe.  Think burnt sienna or warm terracotta.

Look at the difference between the two shades (picture taken at Salon Le Volume after we applied the formula shown below to the color swatch hair).

Now let's get a little technical!  Cowboy copper can be achieved on any shade of hair, whether you are blonde, brunette or a natural red. To achieve the cowboy copper color shown above, we started with a natural level 9 blonde hair swatch.  We used one of our favorite Schwarzkopf Cowboy Copper Formulas:  Igora Royal 8-77 (20g) + 7-57 (10g) + 7-65 (10g) with 20 volume developer for 35min.   If you're interested to achieve your own Cowboy Copper look, come visit us in our secluded and convenient location right off of Legacy Drive in Frisco!

Essential Maintenance Tips:

Copper hair, with its rich and warm undertones, is a striking choice that exudes confidence and elegance. However, maintaining this unique shade requires diligence and a tailored approach to hair care. The vibrant red and orange tones demand specific attention to ensure they remain as captivating as the day you walked out of the salon.  Whether you've recently embraced this bold color or are a long-time copper enthusiast, these tips will help you keep your hair looking vibrant and lustrous.

1. Consult with your hair colorist to come up with a personalized maintenance and service plan:  Different hair types and conditions will likely need specific and tailored service and maintenance plans.  You and your stylist may decide on some at-home mask treatments or even some periodic in-salon hair treatments that allow you to have a professional apply the best and latest technology while you also enjoy a luxurious escape from the day.  You can also set plans and expectations for root-touch-up due to natural hair growth and recolor/redepositing to keep your color looking bold and vibrant - this timeline is typically in the range of 6-12 weeks for permanent color and 4-8 weeks if using a hair gloss service to achieve your look.

2. Specially Formulated Shampoo and Conditioning Products: Opt for sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners designed for color-treated hair to prevent the premature fading of your radiant copper shade. At Salon Le Volume we recommend Beautiful Color by Oribe or Davines Alchemic Copper shampoo and conditioner.

3. Washing Techniques:  Using a gentle color-safe shampoo and conditioner is critical, and it is generally also recommended to regulate the frequency of hair washing (generally 2-3 times per week) even for permanent hair coloring techniques.  Permanent hair color doesn't "wash out" like Demi-Permanant hair coloring, but it can fade over time if your hair care routine doesn't consider the specific needs of permanently colored hair.  In addition to regulating frequency, you should also use lukewarm water since hot water can strip the natural oils from your hair and lead to premature color fading.

4.
UV Protection:  If you spend time outdoors then you will also want to shield your hair from harmful UV rays, as they can cause the copper pigments to dull and lose their radiance. Incorporate UV-protective hair products and stylish hats into your routine, especially during prolonged sun exposure. We recommend using Oi Milk spray by Davines or Invisible Defense by Oribe.

5. Turn down the Heat:  Minimize the use of heat styling tools and always apply a protective serum like Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Serum by Oribe or spray like Melu Hair Shield by Davines before using them. Excessive heat can damage your hair and accelerate color fading.

6. Color-Enhancing Treatments:  Integrate color-depositing conditioners or masks into your hair care routine to rejuvenate and intensify the copper tones between salon visits. These treatments can help revive the brilliance of your hair color, adding an extra level of richness and depth. Davines has a great option for a shampoo, conditioner or mask in Alchemic Copper or Alchemic Red that have color-enhancing elements to their products.

Caring for your captivating copper hair is a commitment that pays off in the form of head-turning, gorgeous locks. By following these maintenance tips, you can ensure your vibrant copper shade remains the talk of the town. Embrace the glow and vibrancy of your hair and let your copper mane shine with unmatched radiance and allure.
